Baghdad -The Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, discussed with his Spanish counterpart, Lieutenant General Teodoro Calderon, military cooperation and coordination between the two countries and contributing to developing the capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces.

A statement by the Ministry of Defense stated: “Today, Wednesday, Yarallah received the Chief of Staff of the Spanish Army, First Lieutenant General Teodoro Calderon, the Commander of NATO in Iraq, and the accompanying delegation, and from the Iraqi side, the Assistant Chief of Staff of the Army for Training, the Commander of the Land Force, the Commander of the Special Forces Division, and the Secretary of the Attachés.”

According to the statement, the two sides discussed aspects of military cooperation and coordination between the two countries and contributing to developing the capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces of all types, in a way that ensures their standing in the face of terrorist challenges, since Spain is one of the members of the NATO mission operating in Iraq.

During the meeting, Yarallah expressed his thanks to the Spanish side for its great role and contribution in fighting the terrorist ISIS and training and supporting the Iraqi security forces.

For his part, his Spanish counterpart affirmed Spain’s support for Iraq and continued cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi military establishment, praising the capabilities of the Iraqi army and the great sacrifices and heroism it made in fighting terrorist organizations, achieving victory over them and contributing to bringing peace to Iraq, the region and the world.
