Workshop on management, development of agricultural nursery production concluded

A specialized workshop on Wednesday focused on the management and development of nursery production, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, concluded on Wednesday in the capital Sana’a.

The two-day workshop aimed to enhance local agricultural production by addressing challenges in plant production, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and aligning production plans for public nurseries with national policies.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Radwan al-Rubaie, the Minister of Agriculture, emphasized the workshop’s significance in improving the management of agricultural nurseries to better supply farmers with seedlings for various crops and fruit trees. He highlighted the urgent need to tackle the challenges facing plant production in Yemen, reiterating the ministry’s commitment to supporting plans and programs that promote agricultural self-sufficiency.

Dr. Al-Rubaie noted studies indicating a decline in the production of key crops in recent years, which has increased r
eliance on imports. He identified the liberalization of fruit product imports as a contributing factor to this decline.

The workshop brought together 25 specialists and agronomists to discuss the obstacles faced by farmers, including pest and disease outbreaks, nutrient deficiencies, and a lack of agricultural awareness. Participants underscored the need for modern technologies to improve production quality.

The workshop concluded with several recommendations, including the introduction of new economic crops and the implementation of a networking system as a preliminary step toward automating nursery production.
