Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the explosions of wireless communication devices (pagers) in Lebanon led to a major disruption in the country’s health system.

Ghebreyesus explained, during a press conference in Geneva today, Thursday, that his organization had conducted intensive contacts with the Lebanese Ministry of Health following the bombing incident.

He added: “This incident caused a major disruption in the Lebanese health system, which was already fragile.”

Ghebreyesus pointed out that “the World Health Organization and its partners have been providing support to Lebanon for several months to confront the expected developments on its territory.”

He added: “To confront such cases, we have trained more than 5,000 medical personnel to work in Lebanese hospitals.”
