Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said that more than 560,000 Palestinian children have been vaccinated in the first phase of the polio vaccination campaign in Gaza, despite the tragic reality of daily life in the Strip.

Ghebreyesus indicated, in a post on the X platform today, that more than 560,000 children under the age of ten have been vaccinated in Gaza.

He said that this campaign represents a great success amid the tragic reality of daily life in Gaza, stressing that they have witnessed what can be achieved by implementing the ceasefire in the areas where vaccination was carried out.

Yesterday, the first phase of the polio vaccination campaign in Gaza ended.

On August 31, the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the World Health Organization, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced, during a press conference, the launch of a polio vaccination campaign for children
under 10 years old.
