Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Rashid Abu Luhum, Minister of Water and Environment En. Abdulraqeeb Al-Shurmani, and Local Secretary General Amin Juman on Wednesday launched a new strategy for enhancing water services in the Capital Sana’a, as approved by President Mahdi al-Mashat.

The officials inaugurated the drilling of six new water wells in Asr field, part of a project funded by the Central Emergency Development Interventions Unit.

The initiative, costing over 627 million YER, aims to benefit 150,000 residents of Maeen district and is divided into two phases.

Additionally, 21 wells across the capital will be equipped with solar energy systems, funded by two loans totaling over 538 million YER.

Dr. Al-Shurmani emphasized the strategy’s role in improving water services and reducing operational costs through renewable energy.

Local water authority’s director Eng. Mohammed Madaes highlighted the project’s importance in alleviating water shortages amid ongoing challenges due to aggression and siege.
