US provides USD 53.7 mln additional humanitarian assistance for Haiti

The US is providing USD 53.7 million in additional humanitarian assistance for the people of Haiti, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) announced Thursday.

USAID, in a statement, said the funding will “help partners provide urgently needed humanitarian assistance, including vital food assistance, as 4.9 million people face acute food insecurity amid the crisis.” It added, “These funds will provide support care for survivors of gender-based violence and other protection services for the most vulnerable, as well as access to safe drinking water and health care.

“Haiti continues to face alarming insecurity, including gang violence, attacks on civilians, and looting, which have exacerbated food insecurity and protection needs and impeded deliveries of life-saving humanitarian assistance,” the statement stressed.

It further noted that with the additional USD 53.7 million, USAID will have provided over USD 110 million in “life-saving humanitarian assistance to Haiti in Fiscal Year 2023.” It affirmed that the US “will continue to stand with Haitians during this challenging time, working to save lives and alleviate suffering caused by the humanitarian crisis”.
