Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, stressed that economic cooperation among Islamic countries is necessary.

The Iranian President said in press statements upon his return to Tehran from a visit to Iraq, according to Iranian media: “We have achieved important achievements to create a common vision during my visit to Iraq.”

He added: “During my visit to the shrine of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), I pledged to continue his method and approach. If we implement the instructions and commandments of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), we can implement justice and eliminate discrimination, and then favoritism and corruption will be eradicated from society.”

Pezeshkian pointed out: “Exchanging experiences between us and other Islamic countries leads to growth, prosperity and creativity in Islamic societies,” stressing that: “With unity, we will strengthen our markets and make our thinking better.”

He continued: “We raised these issues in Baghdad with Iraqi political officials and during
our trip to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, where they welcomed us very well, and expressed their readiness to establish investments and facilitate traffic for visits.”

He explained: “Among the goals we sought to achieve during our three-day visit to Iraq was unity and cohesion to reach a common language and outlook with each other. In terms of political, economic, cultural and security contacts, we held talks with the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of Parliament, the judiciary, political parties and movements of this country, and we expressed our views, and the Iraqi side also expressed the points required for it.”

The Iranian president stated: “14 memoranda of understanding on cooperation between Iran and Iraq have been signed, but the most important thing is that in order to reach a common language, a team from both sides will program long-term strategic plans and it is planned to sign future strategic plans in the coming trips.”

He continued: “We had
a meeting with Iranians who invested in Iraq and listened to their opinions. The Minister of Economy was appointed to follow up on the issues and resolve them. Facilitating transportation was also discussed and we decided to move forward with other neighboring countries based on the general policies drawn up by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution. We also discussed why Muslims cannot come to Iran from Afghanistan and Pakistan, and from there travel to Mecca, Medina and other Islamic countries, and why these connections do not exist in Islamic countries.”

He added: “It was agreed that we would seriously follow up on the Shalamcheh-Basra railway project,” noting: “Good meetings were held in Iraq and a speech was given to the elites of Basra, which was based on sympathy, unity and cohesion.”

He concluded by saying: “The achievements of this trip are important for creating a common language and outlook within the framework of the policies of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.”
