UN Secretary-General: Attack on UNIFIL in Southern Lebanon “May Constitute a War Crime’

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that attacks against international peacekeepers may constitute a war crime, following the breach of a UN peacekeeping position by two Israeli entity’s armored vehicles in southern Lebanon.

Guterres calls on all parties, including the Israeli occupation army, to refrain from any and all actions that put peacekeepers at risk, Spokesman for the Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

“The Secretary-General reiterates that UNIFIL personnel and its premises must never be targeted. Attacks against peacekeepers are in breach of international law, including international humanitarian law. They may constitute a war crime,” he added.

UNIFIL peacekeepers in Lebanon remain in all positions, the statement said.
