The United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon warned on Sunday that the region is approaching an “imminent disaster” amid rising escalation on the Lebanese border, stressing that a military solution will not benefit any party.

UN Coordinator Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert said on the X platform: “As the region approaches an imminent disaster, it cannot be stressed enough that there is no military solution that will provide security for any party.”

The UN Security Council had warned during an emergency session held in New York on Friday of escalation following the explosions of communication devices in Lebanon that resulted in the deaths of 37 martyrs and more than 3,400 wounded, and the Zionist raid on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which led to the deaths of 45 people, calling for “restraint.”

The Israeli forces escalated its air and artillery attacks on villages and towns in southern Lebanon, coinciding with its devastating war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, amid international and UN warnings of an explosion in the region.
