The Ukrainian Parliament on Tuesday approved the decision to extend martial law and the current mobilization for another three months, until the beginning of next November.
The majority of representatives voted for the extension decision presented by President Volodymyr Zelensky to Parliament, after the previous decision expires on August 12, thus continuing general mobilization in the country due to the ongoing war with Russia.
Martial law and mobilization orders were imposed in Ukraine after the launch of the Russian military operation in February 2022, and since then, men who were recruited for war and between the ages of 18 and 60 have been unable to leave the country except in exceptional cases.
Martial law or emergency law provides for the replacement of civilian government by military rule, and the suspension of civil legal processes in favor of military authorities.
It may last for a specified period or indefinitely, and under it basic civil liberties may be suspended as long as it continues to op
erate.
Martial law is often declared in times of war or emergency, such as civil unrest, natural disasters, or in military coups.
