Bethlehem – Together – Israel and Egypt agreed to reopen the Rafah crossing for the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. According to the Israeli Kan channel, they in Israel have not ruled out the possibility of the Palestinians managing the crossing.
Today, a tripartite meeting is being held in Cairo between Israeli security officials, Egyptian and American officials to discuss the issue.
Israel informed Egypt that it was prepared to withdraw the Israeli army from the crossing and station it in a further place in accordance with operational considerations.
Talks about opening the crossing are taking place at the height of security tension between Israel and Egypt due to the Rafah maneuver, the occupation of the crossing, and a shooting incident between Israeli army soldiers and an Egyptian soldier that led to his death.
