Today’s newspapers, Sunday, focused on the participation of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly and the implementation of the government program and other topics, including the start of the new school year.

Al-Zawraa newspaper, issued by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, said that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani headed to New York yesterday, Saturday, to participate in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Prime Minister’s media office stated in a statement: “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani left the capital, Baghdad, heading to New York, to participate in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in its seventy-ninth session.”

The Prime Minister will deliver Iraq’s speech before the General Assembly, and will also deliver a speech at the Future Summit, in which many leaders of countries and presidents participate, and which is concerned with enhancing cooperation, facing challenges, and affirming commitment
s.

Al-Sudani will hold a series of meetings and dialogues with a number of leaders and presidents of Arab and friendly countries, heads of participating delegations, in addition to meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and a number of officials of international and UN organizations and bodies.

For its part, Al-Zaman newspaper said that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani arrived in New York to participate in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, during which he is likely to meet with US President Joe Biden to announce the schedule for the withdrawal of coalition forces according to the agreement concluded between the two countries.

A statement said that “Al-Sudani left Baghdad for New York to participate in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in its seventy-ninth session”.

It added that “the Prime Minister will deliver Iraq’s speech before the General Assembly, and will also deliver a speech at the Future Summit, in which many heads of state and presid
ents participate, and which is concerned with strengthening cooperation, facing challenges, and affirming commitments”.

The statement indicated that “Al-Sudani will hold a series of meetings and dialogues with a number of leaders and presidents of Arab and friendly countries, and heads of participating delegations, in addition to meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and a number of officials of international and UN organizations and bodies”.

Reports quoting sources stated that “Al-Sudani will renew Iraq’s position calling for calming the situation in the region and ending the war that has been ongoing for about a year in the Gaza Strip” indicated that “these meetings are being held this year and the region is experiencing exceptional circumstances that require everyone to take a position to prevent the expansion of the conflict”.

The sources confirmed that “Al-Sudani will mobilize leaders and heads of state to pressure towards taking a decision obligating Israel to cease fire and allow
aid to enter Gaza, and he will also meet with the US President to announce an agreement to schedule the withdrawal of coalition forces”.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Baghdad Alina Romanowski stated that threats to Iraq’s security, stability and sovereignty still exist.

In a post on the X platform on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, Romanowski indicated that ‘the United States is committed to work alongside its partners in the Iraqi government and civil society to promote a peaceful and prosperous Iraq for generations to come,’ adding that ‘threats to Iraq’s stability and sovereignty remain.’ US officials are likely to announce this week an agreement with Baghdad to reduce the number of coalition forces, a move that has been criticized by US lawmakers.

A report quoted American officials as saying that (negotiations regarding the plan that Iraqi officials said would lead to the departure of 2,500 American troops from Iraq by the end of next year have reached their final stages),

They pointed o
ut that (the battle against ISIS remnants in Iraq and Syria has not ended yet), and stressed that (ISIS has certainly been defeated on the ground, and we want to ensure that its defeat will remain permanent, but the threat it poses still exists),

The officials explained that (the announcement is expected to be issued after the meeting of officials from the two countries on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week, which is part of the efforts of President Joe Biden’s team to correct long-term American commitments abroad before Biden leaves office next January)

Al-Sabah newspaper followed up on the implementation of the government program in implementing projects and said that without tiring or boredom, the government team assigned by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani is following up on the stages of implementing the government program in a step aimed at ensuring achievement and its speed, in addition to covering all sectors and joints of the state.

According to the of
ficial government spokesman, Bassem Al-Awadi, “the government program has followed up on 4,223 procedures during the first 6 months of the current year 2024, and the percentage of achievement and realization of the government program was 62% during the government’s life.”

Al-Awadi added that “the team dealt with 879 government procedures that represent the government program’s targets, and with 1,426 procedures related to the program’s five priorities.”

He pointed out that “1,928 procedures were followed up within the goals of all ministries.”

The official spokesman explained that “the team follows up on all inputs and outputs of government procedures related to ministries, governorates and independent bodies, counts the percentages of achievement in them, follows up on the percentages of deviation and their circumstances and develops solutions for them with the parties concerned.”

According to the newspaper, “the procedures that Al-Awadi spoke about relate to “working urgently to improve and develop serv
ices that affect the lives of citizens, support poor and vulnerable groups and low-income citizens, in addition to addressing the phenomenon of unemployment and creating job opportunities for young men and women, and combating administrative corruption and financial, and reforming the economic and financial sectors, especially agriculture, industry and the banking sector, and supporting the private sector.

Regarding the start of the new school year, Al-Zawraa newspaper said that the Ministry of Education announced the start of the new school year in schools throughout Iraq with the participation of more than 12 million students.

The ministry’s spokesman, Karim Al-Sayed, said in a press statement: “The Ministry of Education’s preparations for this year are the best of the past years,” noting that “the preparations have taken many levels, including printing and preparing books early after they had been slow in the past years.”

He added that “the printing presses delivered the curriculum books to the general
directorates and then to the schools, and in the schools’ warehouses there are printed books ready for distribution.”

At the level of school buildings, Al-Sayed indicated that “there is a great effort and preparation for many schools before the start of the school year,” indicating that “there are new schools within the 1000-school project that will enter service.”

He pointed out that “more than 12 million students will join their schools today, Sunday, and the number of first-grade students has reached more than 1.2 million students.”
