Today’s newspapers, Tuesday, focused on Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s confirmation that Iraq is witnessing an unprecedented movement in development and the upcoming visit of the Iranian President to Iraq.

Al-Zawraa newspaper, issued by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, quoted Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani as confirming that Iraq is witnessing an unprecedented movement in development and reconstruction, and his reference to the quest to find a regional and international alliance against drugs.

The Prime Minister’s media office stated in a statement: “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport and Industry of Egypt Kamel al-Wazir, in the presence of the heads of a group of major Egyptian companies in the field of roads, construction and bridges.

He stressed that this visit is a testament to the fraternal Iraqi-Egyptian relationship that represents the cornerstone in serving our brotherly peoples, and it also reflects the keenness of the
leadership of the two countries on serious cooperation, noting that Iraq’s doors are open to all activities in order to achieve Arab economic integration.

The Prime Minister explained that Iraq is witnessing an unprecedented movement in development and reconstruction, stressing the importance of forming a follow-up cell to plan projects that Egyptian companies can implement in Iraq.

For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Transport conveyed to the Prime Minister the greetings of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, stressing that this visit is a continuation of what was witnessed during Al-Sudani’s recent visit to Cairo, in addition to Egypt’s serious desire to expand cooperation with Iraq and President Al-Sisi’s recommendations in this direction.

The Egyptian Minister of Transport confirmed working to complete the memorandum of understanding with the Iraqi Ministry of Transport in the field of land and rail transport, expressing his country’s readiness to co
ntribute effectively to the completion of the development road project.

The delegation accompanying the Minister included 14 major companies, out of a total of 100 Egyptian companies that requested to participate in projects in Iraq, where representatives of these companies expressed their readiness to transfer their expertise and partner with Iraq.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani stressed working to form a regional and international alliance against drugs, indicating that the danger that threatens our children cannot be tolerated.

The Prime Minister’s media office stated in a statement: “The Prime Minister chaired an expanded meeting dedicated to discuss and follow up on the government measures taken regarding the file of combating drugs in Iraq, in the presence of the Ministers of Interior, Health, and Justice, and the Chairman and members of the Committee on Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances in the House of Representatives.”

The statement added that “during the meeting,
the working paper presented by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Combating Narcotics was discussed, and it included several axes, related to reviewing the practical measures presented by the Ministries of Health, Interior, and Justice, and the role of governors, in addition to amending the Anti-Narcotics Law, and the possibility of raising the level of the formation specialized in combating drugs in the Ministry of Interior.”

The Prime Minister directed, according to the statement, that “this meeting be held periodically every two months to follow up on implementation, and review the decisions previously taken by the Council of Ministers in this regard, and the Supreme Committee for Coordination between the Governorates, including allocating a plot of land in each governorate to establish advanced centers for the rehabilitation of addicts, and the level of what has been achieved.”

The Prime Minister praised “the step taken by the Council of Representatives in forming a specialized committee to
confront the challenge of drugs, stressing the government’s response and dealing with all positive initiatives in this dangerous file, the latest and most important of which are the recommendations of the religious authority, which confirmed on August 12, supporting the efforts of the security and supporting agencies, which confirms the authority’s awareness of the great danger of this scourge, which we are working hard to confront.”

The Prime Minister stressed “the inclusion of cases of reporting drug crimes and the seizure of narcotic substances in the rewards mechanism, and the necessary resources have been provided for security work to combat drugs,” stressing “the government’s openness to all organizations and activists, and all parties concerned with protecting our children from the danger of drugs.” The statement continued that “coordination took place between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior and the National Intelligence Service to appoint liaison officers with friendly countries to pur
sue drug networks, as a cross-border crime, stressing “the quest to create a regional and international alliance against drugs, of which Iraq is a part.”

He pointed out that “we are working on completing memoranda of understanding with neighboring countries to quickly exchange intelligence information regarding the pursuit of smuggling and drug trafficking networks, and there has been unprecedented cooperation with these countries,” adding that “drugs are a challenge and a process directed at Iraq and all countries in the region, and the danger of drugs has become more prevalent than the threat of terrorism, and we cannot be lenient with the danger that threatens our children, and we need a broad social effort against drugs.

Al-Sabah newspaper focused on the upcoming visit of the Iranian president to Iraq and said that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to begin an official visit to Iraq tomorrow, Wednesday, which is his first foreign visit after assuming his duties as President of the Islamic
Republic.

Pezeshkian’s visit comes based on an official invitation from President of the Republic Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, conveyed by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.

A high-ranking source in the Iranian presidency told the newspaper: “The visit reflects the desire of the new Iranian government to strengthen bilateral relations and activate the understandings concluded between Iran and Iraq, in addition to signing a number of memoranda of understanding and agreements between the two countries in the security and economic fields.”

The source explained that “Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian decided to make the visit despite the crowding of his program, which includes a visit to the United States of America to participate in the meetings of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, and this reflects the interest of the new Iranian government in relations with Iraq in various fields.”

The Iranian presidential sourc
e referred to “the economic and trade relations that link the two countries, as the volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached 10 billion dollars annually, and the two countries aspire to increase this level to 20 billion dollars.”

He explained that “regional and international issues will be on the table of discussions that President Pezeshkian is holding with President of the Republic Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, especially those related to the continuation of the Zionist aggression on The Gaza Strip and the efforts to cease fire, in addition to Iranian-Arab relations, as Iraq played a role in normalizing relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by hosting the initial talks between Tehran and Riyadh, which led to the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
