Western media reported that the new British Chief of Staff, Raleigh Walker, announced that Britain and its allies need to prepare for war or containment within three years.

The report published in those outlets stated, quoting Walker: ‘The British Army needs to be ready for war within three years. There is an ‘urgent need’ for the British Army to renew its ability to deter future wars with credible combat power.’

In the same context, Walker stressed that the world “is not on an inevitable path to war,” but this does not detract from the need to restore Britain’s hard power to ensure deterrence.

He explained that the danger could come from Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, including against the backdrop of discussions in the West about China’s alleged potential entry into Taiwan and Iran’s alleged desire to make nuclear weapons.

Speaking about the British military’s need to prepare, Walker said: “By 2027-2028 this convergence may reach a kind of mutual exclusivity, and I think your ability to deal with
them in isolation will decrease significantly.”

The Guardian newspaper indicated that Walker is making such statements against the backdrop of problems related to the number of troops, as the modern British army is the smallest in three centuries. In addition, the country has provided its tanks, missiles, artillery, and large supplies of missiles to Kiev.

Walker previously promised to “double the lethal force” of Britain’s army over the next three years, with a focus on developing unmanned systems and electronic warfare.
