The Iraqi Journalists Syndicate holds a preparatory workshop for the conference ‘Climate Culture: Strategy and Challenges’

The Iraqi Journalists Syndicate held, today, Saturday, a special preparatory workshop for the conference and exhibition (Climate Culture.. Strategy and Challenges) organized by the Conference Palace Department in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the Department of Non-Governmental Organizations, the Iraqi Media Network, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, and the Department of Public Arts in the Ministry of Culture the day after tomorrow, Monday. The head of the Arab Journalists Federation and the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Mu’ayyad Al-Lami, said at the opening of the workshop, “The climate change file in Iraq has become a priority in light of the significant increase in pollution rates and the lack of concern for what the country has been exposed to from war projectiles during the past eras.

He added, “Such workshops and seminars will give important momentum to other ministries and state departments to take their role and assume this national responsibility,” indicating that “society
needs awareness, education and warning of the importance and danger of climate change and its repercussions.”

Al-Lami stressed that “this is a national mission that requires the combined efforts of all governmental, union and community sectors,” noting the Syndicate’s readiness to provide support for every endeavor aimed at preserving the environment.

In turn, the director of the Conference Palace Department at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Montaser Al-Hasnawi, said, “The joint workshop will enhance cooperation between sectoral, union and governmental bodies, because the level of awareness of the danger of climate change and its effects is still below ambition.”

He added, “The participation of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate in the “Climate Culture Conference and Exhibition” will determine the frameworks and features of a group of axes, the most important of which are “the role and work of the governmental committees concerned with the climate and environmental changes file, and their future pla
ns, as well as the role of civil and non-governmental organizations concerned with the climate file.” He said, “We look forward to working together to prepare a national strategic plan for Iraq’s file in confronting climate change, which will pave the way for participation in the climate summit that will be held in Azerbaijan next month.”
