Undersecretary of Taiz province for Development Affairs Abdul-Wasie al-Shamsi on Sunday held a meeting with Deputy Head of the Red Cross Mission in Yemen with Freya Rady.

In the meeting, al-Shamsi and Rady focused on coordination mechanisms for the International Committee’s intervention to mitigate flood damage in the Maqbanah District.

They highlighted the severe damage caused by recent torrential floods in Maqbanah and al-Rawnah districts.

The officials emphasized the urgency of repairing and protecting flood channels to prevent future damage and discussed compensation for those most affected by the floods, including land erosion, buried wells, and loss of equipment, shops, homes, and vehicles.

Rady stressed the importance of establishing a working mechanism with engineers from the Flood Damage Response Committee and the Agriculture Office to ensure coordinated efforts in addressing the flood damage.

Later, Undersecretary al-Shamsi met with Binaa Development Foundation Project Eng. Safwan Abdulsalam Na
ji in which they discussed the necessary needs for Maqbanah district, including sectors like education, health, water, agriculture, and alternative energy, particularly in light of the recent flood damage.

Al-Shamsi expressed his appreciation for Binaa Foundation’s commitment to starting work in the district, in coordination with local engineers starting from tomorrow.
