The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Syrian special forces carried out for the first time an airdrop operation from a Russian transport plane from an altitude of 5,000 metres.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement, according to Sputnik, that the Russian Air Forces conducted joint exercises with the Syrian Special Forces, during which forces were landed during the day and night, with the participation of Russian attack helicopters and transport aircraft.

The Russian Ministry said that the exercises were led by Russian trainers with soldiers from the 25th Special Forces Division of the Syrian Army, and transport aircraft and helicopters of the Russian Air Force were used during the parachute landing operations.

According to the statement, more than 1,500 jumps were carried out over the deserts of Idlib Governorate, the mountains of Latakia, and the Mediterranean Sea during the maneuvers.

According to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense, “During this exercise, Syrian forces trained for the first time in mass parachute landing operations from an Ilyushin-76 transport plane belonging to the Russian Air Force, using “Arbalet-2” parachutes and night vision devices from an altitude of 5,000 meter”.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, in the final stage of the maneuvers, the Syrian special forces trained to control a mock enemy airfield after a landing operation carried out by Mi-8 AMTSH helicopters of the Russian Air Force.

The Ministry indicated that the Syrian forces received air fire support from Russian Ka-52 helicopters during their seizure of the enemy’s fictitious airport.
