Spanish Prime Minister Meets with the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit Ministerial Committee Delegation


Madrid: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met today here with the delegation of the Ministerial Committee Assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit to tackle developments in Gaza Strip, headed by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.

The meeting was attended by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha.

The committee members hailed Spain’s move to recognize the State of Palestine, and vowed to keep pushing for wider recognition of the Palestinian state, to secure Palestinians’ rights and promote peace in the region and the world, at a time of extremism, violence, and continuous violations of international law.

The meeting focused on pr
ogress made by the committee backing Palestinian statehood. It emphasized the importance of taking swift action to achieve the two-state solution and establish a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the Arab Peace Initiative and other international proposals.

Also discussed at the meeting were efforts made to halt Israeli attacks on Gaza Strip, including Rafah City, with discussants emphasizing the need for an urgent ceasefire and unimpeded delivery of substantial humanitarian aid throughout the strip.

They also touched on mechanisms for addressing the humanitarian catastrophe facing inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, and stopping all illegitimate unilateral Israeli measures in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in order to arrive at a just and comprehensive peace, preserve the rights of the Palestinian people, and achieve security in the region.

The meeting tackled mechanisms to alleviate the Gaza Strip’s humanitarian catastrophe, and urged an end
to all unilateral, illegitimate Israeli actions in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to achieve just, comprehensive peace, protect Palestinian rights, and ensure regional security.
