Spain and Portugal call for international peace conference to achieve two-state solution


Spain and Portugal called on Tuesday for an international conference on peace in the Middle East as soon as possible to achieve the two-state solution.

This came in a joint statement following a meeting of the foreign and defense ministers of the two countries in Madrid in preparation for the 35th summit of the two governments scheduled to be held tomorrow in the Portuguese city of Faro.

The two countries called for an international peace conference in the Middle East as soon as possible in order to achieve progress in the two-state solution.

The two countries stressed that the two-state solution is the “only solution” for peace in the Middle East, calling for taking tangible and irreversible steps in this regard.

Spain and Portugal also condemned the Israeli attacks on the UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon “UNIFIL”, and called for restoring control of the situation in the region to prevent the outbreak of a regional war.

The two countries stressed their support for the Palestinian National Authority, an
d called for allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.
