The authorities of the South Korean capital, Seoul, announced that they had detected new garbage balloons, launched by North Korea for the tenth time in recent months.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement on Wednesday: The balloons appear to be heading towards the northern part of Gyeonggi Province surrounding Seoul, and advised residents not to touch the falling balloons and to report them to the army or police.

North Korea has launched more than 3,000 garbage-laden balloons since late May, including about 500 on Sunday, in a move to reciprocate anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent by North Korean defectors and activists in the South.

In response, South Korea resumed large-scale propaganda broadcasts over loudspeakers towards the North.
