The Social Affairs and Labor Minister in the caretaker government, Obaid Salem Bin Dhaby, met the UNICEF Disability Expert and Consultant, Kristel Jriloo.

The meeting, which was attended by the Assistant Undersecretary for the Social Welfare Sector, Yasser Sharaf Al-Din, discussed common issues and aspects of cooperation between the ministry and UNICEF.

In the meeting, Minister Bin Dhaby stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership and coordination between the organization and the ministry in its various institutional units.. referring to the care and attention given by the Supreme Political Council , the government to the issues and needs of the disabled.

The Social Affairs Minister reiterated the importance of UNICEF reflecting the matrix of what will be absorbed from support, integration and funding programs for educational, health and technical programs.

He pointed out that the largest spread of the number of disabled people and the density of disability is not only in the capital Sana’a,
but in other provinces, specifically in rural areas.

He stressed the need to reach the disabled in the countryside; pointing to the problems that lead to the disabled not accessing the ministry’s services, which requires working to overcome them through community rehabilitation programs, which have stopped for reasons related to operating expenses.

Bin Dhaby called on UNICEF to support and activate the activities of community rehabilitation programs “CBR”; as they are important programs to reach people with disabilities in their houses in rural and urban areas, and to deliver all services to them, especially educational and health services.

For her part, Jriloo explained that UNICEF is ready to strengthen the relationship and intensify joint efforts to serve the disabled.

She stressed that she is working to anticipate the relationship and identify the aspects of partnership and various activities that can be strengthened, and to absorb the programs and activities that were discussed and are part of the or
ganization’s activities.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Minister’s Office, Abdulaziz Al-Sabry, and the Social Protection Officer at UNICEF, Omar Al-Noud.
