The Presidency of the Shura Council discussed in its meeting on Sunday under the chairmanship of the Speaker of the Council, Mohamed Hussein Al-Aidarous, the reports of the local authority and services committees of the Council on “the transport sector resilience and challenge”, and the economic on “developments in indicators of trade conditions during the period from 2015-2022”.

The Authority listened to the presentation of the Chairman of the Local Authority and Services Committee, Abdul Allah Majidi, on the topics included in the report related to the impact of the transport sector in supporting the national economy, the difficulties facing the sector and its affiliated bodies, the damage and losses it suffered due to the aggression, and the conclusions and recommendations of the report.

The report indicated that the total losses suffered by the transport sectors as a result of the aggression and blockade amounted to more than $ 14 billion during the period (2015-2024), including 49 percent in the air tr
ansport sector, 44 percent in the maritime transport sector and 7 percent in the land transport sector.

The Presidency also listened to the presentation of the Chairman of the Economic Committee, Hussein Al-Jalal, on the Committee’s report on the importance of the trade and business services sector, the challenges facing the import sector represented in the economic aspects, the decline in growth rates, the weakness of infrastructure, the obstacles affecting the level of export development, and the effects of the US-Saudi economic blockade on the national economy.

The report pointed to the importance of working to enhance export competitiveness, improve the position of the balance of payments and trade balance, and work to apply specifications and standards, intellectual property rights, innovation, trademarks and the development of business services.

The Authority praised the efforts of the two committees in preparing the two reports and the statistics, indicators and axes of building them aimed at develo
ping the transport and commercial sectors.

The Authority approved the reports of the Local Authority and Services Committee and the Economic Committee and referred them to the Main Committee.
