An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck the Kamchatka region in Russia’s far east.

The Russian Academy of Sciences said in a statement Thursday that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 39 km, and its epicenter was 120 km from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative center of the region which has a population of more than 160,000 people.

There have been no reports of casualties, injuries or material damages as a result of the earthquake.

The same region witnessed a 7-magnitude earthquake last Saturday, along with the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano the following day.
