The Russian Ministry of Defence announced on Monday, that its forces managed to control the Viemka railway station in Donetsk province and repelled two Ukrainian counter-attacks.

In a statement, the Ministry stated that its forces destroyed Ukrainian formations and equipment in the areas of Staritsa, Okhrymovka, Volchansk and Glushkovka in Kharkov province, Nevskoy and Stilmakhovka in Lugansk province, Gregorovka and Turskoye in Donetsk province, noting that the Ukrainian side’s losses as a result of these military operations were 605 soldiers.

In contrast, Ukraine said on Monday, that it was achieving its objectives from a two-week incursion into Russia’s Kursk region after Moscow confirmed that Ukrainian forces had damaged a third bridge after striking two bridges used to supply troops.

Kyiv says it has taken control of more than 80 residential gatherings within an area of more than 1150 square kilometres since a surprise incursion began on August 6.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy,
the attack on the Kursk region bordering eastern Ukraine was aimed at disrupting a buffer zone.

Reports of the magnitude of the losses of the parties to the conflict are contradictory, with each alleging heavy losses. Without being able to verify that information independently as fighting continues, at a time when Kyiv-Moscow mutual attacks continue and took an upward trajectory on August 6, following the Ukrainian army’s announcement that it would be able to penetrate Russian territory and progress in the Kursk border area of Kilometer, a new shift in the war between the two countries since 2022.
