The President of the Federal Supreme Court, Jassim Mohammed Abboud, confirmed today, Tuesday, that Iraq has taken great steps in the field of democratic construction and constitutional institutions.

The Federal Court stated in a statement: “The President of the Federal Supreme Court, Jassim Mohammed Abboud, met with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, during his official visit to Armenia, in the presence of the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia, Arman Dilanyan.”

The statement quoted Abboud as stressing: “The deepening of historical relations between the Iraqi and Armenian peoples, and Iraq’s keenness to strengthen and enhance those relations in various aspects,” noting that “Iraq has taken very great steps in the field of democratic construction and building constitutional institutions in order to build a democratic parliamentary system that guarantees Iraq’s unity in accordance with the constitution.”

He explained: “Takfirism and
terrorism did not deter the Iraqi people from moving forward to build a system of state law based on the rule of law and ensuring that the people enjoy all constitutional rights, including the right to vote, elect and run for office,” indicating that “Iraq was able, despite all the challenges, to build constitutional institutions through which a democratic system can be built in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq.”

For his part, Simonyan expressed during the meeting his appreciation to the President of the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court for his valuable visit,” stressing “the importance of such meetings in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries” and affirming “Armenia’s commitment to supporting and strengthening friendly ties with Iraq.”
