CARACAS: President Mahmoud Abbas today honored Venezuelan poet, singer and poet Freddy Ñañez with the Order of Culture, Science and Arts.

President Abbas granted Ñañez the Brilliance Level of the Order of Culture, Science and Arts in appreciation of his creative and arts contributions as well as his balanced role in support of the Palestinian Question and deep-rooted culture and in consolidating Palestine’s presence on the map of Latin America and the world.

Palestine’s ambassador to Venezuela, Fadi Alzaben, bestowed the Order to the poet and singer Ñañez at the headquarters of the Ministry of Communication and Information in Caracas in the presence of not only a host of Venezuelan, Arab and world authors participating in the 18th edition of the World Poetry Festival but also of Secretary-General of the General Union of Palestinian Writers, Murad Sudani.

The poet and singer Ñañez currently serves as the Minister for Communication and Information and Deputy President for Information, Communication, Culture
and Tourism.

Palestine’s ambassador to Caracas Alzaben stated that the Order of Culture, Science and Arts was bestowed on Ñañez in the context of affirming cultural cooperation between both countries and in appreciation of Ñañez’s support to the Palestinian cause under the complex and extraordinary circumstances the cause has been going through.

Alzaben added that such circumstances manifest in the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, and the daily killings, home demolitions, land grab, settler-colonialism and the attempts to de-Palestinize the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

He hailed Ñañez as a free voice engaged in confronting the deception of the Israeli settler-colonialism’s narrative.

Ñañez said that honouring him with the Order would give him a new incentive to stand by the just cause of Palestine and expose the fallacies of the Israeli occupation.
