The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) Saturday granted His Majesty King Abdul II the PAM Award for his efforts in providing humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

The award, which is given annually to individuals and institutions, aims to shed light on the efforts of leading figures in the humanitarian, political, economic and other fields.

Senate President Faisal Fayez received the Award on behalf of the King, conveying His Majesty’s thanks to PAM, whose award represents appreciation for Jordan and its continuous efforts to stop Israel’s “brutal” war in Gaza.

Fayez said, “His Majesty the King, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, has been personally committed to ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to all areas of the Gaza Strip and has personally supervised the airdrops of aid.”

PAM President Enaam Mayara, who presented the award, said, “This honouring comes in appreciation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean for His Majesty the King’s excep
tional keenness to provide urgent and necessary humanitarian aid and exert political and diplomatic efforts to restore peace and stability in the context of the conflict.”

Mayara said, “Jordan has been the most prominent supporter of the Palestinian cause for more than seven decades and the true supporter of the rights of the Palestinian people in the face of the Israeli occupation, in addition to the religious and political responsibility that His Majesty King Abdullah II bears towards the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.”

He urged an immediate ceasefire, adding that PAM is committed to international humanitarian law and allowing urgent humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.

He said PAM is committed to UN resolutions and international law and implementation of the two-state solution to ensure peace.
