Palestinian factions support the call by a Fatah official to immediately begin a national dialogue

Palestinian factions today supported the call by Hussein al-Sheikh, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Fatah’s Central Committee, to immediately start a national dialogue to face in a unified way the difficult circumstances facing the Palestinian cause.

Al-Sheikh said in a tweet today that some of the most important political and national outcomes of the recent meeting of the Palestinian Central Council, the second-highest decision-making body in the (PLO), was “the development of a comprehensive roadmap based on the Council’s decisions that set the parameters of the next stage.”

“This requires a clear methodology founded on the unity of all Palestinians to protect the national project, through comprehensive and bilateral national dialogues that must be initiated immediately,” he said.

Aa’id Yaghi, member of the political bureau of the Palestinian National Initiative, told WAFA that al-Sheikh’s call to start comprehensive and bilateral national dialogues is particularly important in light of the difficult circumstances facing the Palestinian issue.

“The National Initiative movement has called for and continues to call for a comprehensive national dialogue to agree on a unified strategy to confront all the challenges facing our cause,” he said.

Aa’id expressed hope that actual steps by all the factions will start on the ground after this call, particularly the implementation of what was previously agreed on regarding the national dialogue and restoration of unity.

Walid al-Awad, member of the political bureau of the Palestinian People’s Party, also said the call for national dialogue is important for the national project.

“The Israeli government’s aggression, siege, settlements, and cold-blooded murder in collusion with the US administration should be confronted by starting a national dialogue to agree on a political strategy based on implementing the decisions of the Central and National Councils and the decision of the general secretaries of the factions, and to agree on the formation of the united national leadership of the popular resistance,” he told WAFA.

Its success, he stressed, requires achieving political partnership in all matters to ensure that the implementation of this strategy is done in a united way.

The Central Council held its 31st session last week in Ramallah during which it decided to suspend the recognition of Israel until it recognizes the State of Palestine on the June 4, 1967, lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, and halts settlement activity. It also affirmed the cessation of all forms of security coordination with Israel.
