RAMALLAH: Palestine is set to file a case with the International Labour Organization (ILO) over the compensations of Palestinian workers in the 1948 Territories, according to Secretary General of the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions (GFPTU), Shaher Saad.

Speaking to Palestine TV, Saad said that such a case would be filed in the ILO against the Israeli government by the end of this month, July, via the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), demanding that Israel pays compensations to Palestinian workers working inside it.

He revealed that that an online Zoom meeting was held during the previous week to discuss the issue of filing such a case. The meeting was attended by the Palestinian Labor Minister Enas Attari, a GFPTU team, the ITUC Secretary-General and 25 international legal experts.

The attendants agreed to file the case since Israel, the occupying power, a signatory to the International Labour Organization Convention, and thus, could be obliged to pay compensations to Palestini
an workers.

Saad explained that any Palestinian worker holding an Israeli work permit is entitled to receive a compensation from the Israeli occupation government while noting that the GFPTU will launch a campaign to make sure that the names of all workers are added to a list to be compiled and submitted for this purpose.

Approximately 150,000 Palestinian workers from the West Bank have lost their work due to Israeli restrictions on workers’ access to their workplaces inside Israel.
