The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics announced that about six million Palestinian refugees are registered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The Palestinian Bureau said in a statement on the occasion of World Refugee Day, which was approved by the United Nations in 2000, that 2.5 million Palestinian refugees live in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The Bureau added in its statement that “the percentage of Palestinian refugees registered with UNRWA in Jordan is about 40% of the total Palestinian refugees, while this percentage in Lebanon and Syria reached about 8% and 10%, respectively.”

It pointed out that these estimates represent the minimum number of Palestinian refugees, considering the presence of unregistered refugees, as this number does not include those Palestinians who were displaced after 1949 until the eve of the June 1967 war according to UNRWA’s definition, nor does it include Palestinians who left or were deported in 1967 due to the war and
who were not refugees in the first place.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced to leave or abandon their cities and villages in 1948 and became refugees in their homeland and in other countries. The Central Bureau of Statistics estimated in its statement that the number of Palestinian martyrs since 1948 until today inside and outside the Palestinian territories is more than 136 thousand.

He pointed out that more than 37,500 people were killed during the Israeli campaign on the Gaza Strip since October 7, including more than 15,162 children. 520 martyrs have also fallen in the West Bank since the same date, and “nearly two million citizens inside the Gaza Strip have been displaced away from their places of their residence.

Since October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with absolute American support, leaving tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, which has put Tel Aviv in international isolation and led to its prosecution before the International Court of Justice.
