Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi and his British counterpart David Lammy discussed Friday, over the phone, the need of reaching an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, providing relief items and the release of prisoners.

Al-Busaidi congratulated Lammy on the new post, wishing him every success, Oman’s Foreign Minister said in a statement.

The two sides dealt with friendship relations and cooperation, and the catastrophic humanitarian situation from which Palestinian people are suffering, it added.

They further focused on the need of returning to the comprehensive and permanent peace path based on a two-state solution and the recognition of an independent Palestinian state, it noted.

The UK Labor Party, led by Keir Starmer, won the UK’s legislative election held on July 4, ending 14 years of Conservative government.

Being the country’s Prime Minister, Starmer announced the appointment of a number of new ministers in the new government that included Lammy as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonw
ealth and Development Affairs.
