The Emergency Room in Sudan announced that the number of victims of the collapse of the Arbaat Dam, which is the main source of drinking water for the city of Port Sudan in eastern Sudan, has risen to more than 132 people, warning of a halt in water supplies.
The committee explained that 10 states and 50 localities were affected by the floods and rains that swept the country since yesterday, Sunday.
The Sudanese authorities intensified efforts to rescue dozens of stranded people who took refuge in the mountains after the collapse of the Arbaat Dam on Sunday.
The General Authority for Meteorology warned of rain in the states of the Red Sea, the Nile River, the North, Kassala, Al-Qadarif and North Darfur, and heavy rains are expected in the Ethiopian plateau and the highlands of Eritrea.
The Authority said that these rains may lead to flooding of valleys, bounties and rivers (Gash and Atbara), calling on citizens and authorities to take the highest levels of caution and preparedness.
