The Military Intelligence Directorate announced the seizure of a large underground tunnel linking Tal Afar district and the mountains of Al-Ayadiya district, west of Nineveh, belonging to ISIS terrorist gangs.
The directorate stated in a statement, ‘Based on accurate intelligence information from the directorate confirming the existence of an underground tunnel, and after research and inspection, a large underground tunnel was found with a length of more than (500) meters from the Tal Afar district side and more than (500) meters from the district mountains side of Al-Ayadiya, west of Nineveh Governorate.
It added, “It was used by ISIS terrorist gangs to move and hide underground, as well as to transport weapons, ammunition, supplies, and other materials,” stressing that “a number of ammunition of different caliber and type were seized inside the tunnel, and the engineering unit detachments were responsible for removing the materials, destroying them on site, and completely burying the tunnel.”
