Lebanon calls on UN Security Council to take urgent decision to cease fire

The Lebanese government called on the UN Security Council on Friday to take an urgent decision to cease fire in Lebanon.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said in press statements, “We decided during the government session to address the Security Council and demand it to take an urgent decision to cease fire in Lebanon, indicating that the diplomatic solution is on the table, which is to return to implementing Resolution 1701, and we are committed to it, and the international community must oblige the Israeli enemy to do so.

He added that “Hezbollah is a partner in the government and agrees to implement UN Resolution 1701,” stressing that “Lebanon is a victim of Israeli arrogance that does not deter and violates our sovereignty in front of the world, strengthened by the suspicious silence about its massacres.”

He pointed out that “the US Secretary of State stressed in a call with us the need to elect a president for the republic, but the priority is the safety and security of our country and an immediate ceasefire, which is necessary.”

On the humanitarian side, Mikati explained that ‘the government has provided about 595 schools and is receiving displaced people from various Lebanese regions, and we are working to prepare more shelters.’
