Kuwait affirmed on Monday its support for the efforts made by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) to achieve development in the Arab countries.

This came in a speech by the representative of Kuwait, President of the 14th session, delivered by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Dr. Maryam Al-Azmi, during the 15th session of (ESCWA), which was held in Cairo.

Al-Azmi expressed appreciation for the efforts of the ESCWA Executive Secretariat over the past year in providing support to member states in their journey towards achieving comprehensive social development.

She affirmed Kuwait’s support for Lebanon’s presidency of the work of the Social Committee, saying, “We count on the role of the Social Development Committee in ESCWA, especially with the great development challenges facing the region.

The 15th session of the Committee for Social Development discusses several topics, including the problem of worsening inequalities resulting from mu
ltiple and overlapping crises that have weighed heavily on some countries and population groups in the Arab region, hindering growth, and the importance of working to address these challenges.

The Kuwaiti delegation is scheduled to participate in the Third Arab Forum for Equality, organized by ESCWA in Cairo tomorrow under the auspices of Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine Al-Kabbaj to discuss issues of addressing manifestations and forms of inequality in the Arab region.
