Khartoum: “Abyei” Area Issue is Priority Can Not Be Delayed

Vice-President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Political and Administrative Oversight of Abyei area General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo stressed the need for continued coordination and cooperation between Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan, to build trust and exchange views on how to provide a solid basis for the final solution for the issue of Abyei area.

The Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council said at the joint meeting between Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan on Abyei area at Al-Salam Rotana Hotel in Khartoum today that despite the critical conditions that Sudan is going through, holding the meeting was a priority in appreciation of the sensitivity of the area’s issue and the human suffering that the communities are going through, pointing to the importance of reaching through the meeting positive results to put Abyei area on the path of just and sustainable peace.

For his part, Adviser to the President of South Sudan for Security Affairs Lieutenant General Tut Galwak, stressed the importance of reaching a final solution to the Abyei issue, adding that Abyei citizens paid the bill for the tensions in the region.

Galwak said that they came to Khartoum carrying a clear directive from President of South Sudan Lieutenant General Salva Kiir Mayardit, to consult on resolving the issue.

The joint meeting on Abyei, which was held in Khartoum today, came at the initiative of the Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council and it is the second of its kind to discuss sustainable solutions to the Abyei issue and provide necessary solutions to the local communities.
