The Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects launched Saturday the NASA International Space Apps Challenge.
The three-day competition will involve 120 students from 15 teams of university students from diverse academic areas.
Speaking at the competition’s opening, the center’s director, Muhannad Qwaider, said students are encouraged to innovate and scientific thinking, by providing innovative solutions to the challenges posed by the US space agency.
He added that the JUST’s center, under the directives of its presidency, supports these competitions that promote innovation and open new horizons for students, noting that the initiatives give students the opportunity to test their ideas and apply their knowledge in a competitive environment, and contribute to developing their practical skills and preparing a generation of leaders and innovators capable of contributing to the future of science and technology.
Participants formed teams to develop projects
that address issues ranging from environmental sustainability to space exploration, and workshops and training sessions were provided to contestants, allowing them to improve their skills and exchange ideas.
The winning projects were presented on the final day of the competition, giving students a chance to showcase their creations to a jury of industry experts.
