Jordan’s King Abdullah II, in a phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden, called this evening for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the protection of civilians. The King emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination and efforts to end the Israeli aggression and achieve peace.

The call addressed the need to ensure the timely delivery of humanitarian aid and relief to Gaza, according to Petra, Jordan’s state-run news agency. It said King Abdullah II expressed concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza which is likely to worsen with the continuation of the Israeli military offensive.

The Jordanian monarch reiterated his rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians within or outside the Gaza Strip, as well as any efforts to reoccupy any part of the territory. He also warned against any attempts to separate the West Bank from the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that both together constitute one Palestinian state.

The phone call also touched upon the dangerous developme
nts in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. King Abdullah II warned that the serious Israeli escalation and the violence of extremist settlers against Palestinians could escalate the conflict and create chaos in the West Bank.

He stressed the need for the U.S. to play a leading role in pushing for a political horizon for the Palestinian issue, ultimately achieving peace based on a two-state solution.
