Roughly 45% of Jordanian voters are under 35, and about 600,000 Jordanians eligible to vote will vote for the first time in the upcoming parliamentary elections, said Minister of Youth Mohammad Nabulsi.

Nabulsi shared the numbers on Tuesday at the Government Communications Forum meeting entitled “Ministry of Youth… Roles in Empowerment and Effective Participation.”

The meeting focused on the Ministry of Youth’s plans and programmes to empower younger Jordanians and enhance their participation in public life, the ministry’s role in enhancing the active participation of youth in political life, the Al Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Volunteer Work, the National Youth Strategy 2019-2025 and Jordan’s hosting of the High-Level International Forum on Youth, Peace and Security.

Nabulsi said the project completion percentage in the National Youth Strategy 2019-2025 action plan reached 89 per cent, as the ministry focuses on media awareness programmes in youth centres, noting that the strategy includes seven ax
es, including political and economic participation.

He added that the ministry is developing its staff capacities in youth centres through a training plan, especially since it supervises 345 sports and youth facilities and 404 sports clubs.

He said the ministry is working to transform some youth centres into business incubators.

Nabulsi said the ministry seeks to establish an international stadium with international specifications by searching for investors for the project with the support of the International Federation of Football Association.

Government Communications Minister Muhannad Mubaideen said, “The national carrier project is one of the projects that are among the priorities of the government’s work due to its importance in achieving Jordanian water security, economic stability and food security,” adding that the project would provide more than 300 million cubic meters annually.

Mubaideen added that Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh announced the government’s commencement of offering a detailed
feasibility study bid for the construction of a 15-kilometre bridge over King Abdullah II Street in Amman extending from Sweileh to beyond Marj Al-Hamam, as this bridge will be built over the existing street and aims to establish a route for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) – bus express service.
