Israeli MKs submit draft prohibiting Palestinians accused of ‘terrorism’ from university

RAMALLAH: Knesset member Amit Halevi, from the Likud party, and four representatives from the ruling coalition blocs, submitted a draft law prohibiting Israeli higher education institutions from granting a university title and education to anyone convicted of ‘terrorism’ or ‘supporting terrorism’ under the Israeli ‘anti-terrorism’ law, according to Madar – The Palestinian Forum for Israeli Studies.

The draft also applies to someone who was accused by a disciplinary committee at a higher education institution of being associated with the activisim of a ‘terrorist organization.’

This law, especially regarding the issue of the disciplinary committee, which is not a judicial body, targets Palestinians living in the 1948 territories, but if approved, it will include political prisoners and prisoners who wish to continue their education during their imprisonment.

Israeli authorities have been detaining and imposing punishments on Palestinians in the 48′ territories merely for making pro-Palestine posts or showin
g solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza on social media platforms.

Last October, Israeli police detained Palestinian artist and singer Dalal Abu Amneh after she made posts on her social media pages in support of Gaza amidst the ongoing Israeli aggression against it.
