JENIN: Israeli occupation forces Wednesday evening detained a Palestinian at the Barta’a military checkpoint, south of the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, according to local sources.

They said that soldiers manning the checkpoint stopped and rounded up a young man from the Silat al-Harithiya town, northwest of Jenin.

Earlier, the occupation troops detained another in the course of a colonist attack on the Qusra village, south of the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, as well as a minor after physically assaulting him in the city of Hebron.

The occupation forces also conducted multiple raids across the occupied West Bank, mostly in the predawn and morning hours, detaining at least 10 Palestinians.

As part of the predawn and morning raids, the occupation troops rounded up at the ‘Awarta checkpoint, south of Nablus. The detainee was identified as a resident of the Tubas city.

In Jenin governorate, the occupation soldiers rounded up another after stopping him at the Al-Hamra checkpoint in the Jordan Valley
. The detainee was identified as a resident of Rummana village, west of Jenin.

They also rounded up another during a raid into the city of Nablus.

In Tulkarm governorate, the occupation troops conducted a raid in Ramin town, east of the city, resulting in the detention of a person.

They also conducted a raid in the Kafr Jammal village, south of Tulkarm, leading to the detention of a person.

In the southern West Bank, a convoy of army vehicles stormed the city of Yatta, south of Hebron, where the soldiers ransacked a number of houses in the vicinity of the Ministry of Interior building and al-Juneidi Dairy Factory, and detained a 16-year-old teen.

They also rounded up two people from the Hebron city, another from al-Arroub refugee camp and another from Beit Ummar town, northwest of the city.

This brings the total number of Palestinians detained on Wednesday to at least 13.

Israeli occupation forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searchin
g for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.

According to the latest figures from Addameer, the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, there are currently 9,700 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centers, including 250 children and 79 female prisoners.

This number includes 3,380 Palestinians placed under ‘administrative detention’, that allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a
detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.

Mass arrest of Palestinians is nothing new. According to a 2017 report by Addameer, over the past 50 years, more than 800,000 Palestinians have been imprisoned or detained by Israel, this figure is now believed to be closer to 1 million. This means that about 40% of Palestinian men and boys living under military occupation have been deprived of their freedom. Almost every Palestinian family has suffered the imprisonment of a loved one.
