Iraq calls for an ‘exceptional’ Arab and regional stand to stop the war on Gaza
The Iraqi government called today, Wednesday, for an ‘exceptional’ Arab and regional stand to stop the war on Gaza.
Government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi said in a statement, ‘The Iraqi government is following the developments of the situation in Gaza and the occupied territories of Palestine, and in particular the recent escalation of the Zionist aggression against Rafah, with more women, children and unarmed civilians becoming martyrs, which calls for an exceptional Arab and regional stance, just as ‘It is imperative for the international community and its organizations to bear responsibility and make more efforts to stop the criminal persistence in wading in the blood of our Palestinian people.’
He added: From this standpoint, Iraq calls for a responsible Arab, Islamic and regional movement, at the popular and official levels, and at the level of all voices that can influence pressure in order to put an end to the disregard for international and humanitarian norms, prevent a full-fledged genocide, and pre
vent the spread of conflict in the region, irresponsibly pushing it towards the brink of an endless spiral of violence.’
Al-Awadi continued: Iraq highly appreciates the recent positions represented by a number of friendly countries recognizing the State of Palestine on its historical land, in a clear response to the negligent policies pursued by some international powers that supported the aggression, or remained silent about it, and even went to great lengths to justify the crime.
He stressed that “the Iraqi government renews its support for the cause of the Palestinian people, and urges all relevant international bodies and governments to act immediately to open the way for medical and food aid and humanitarian relief efforts.”
Al-Awadi concluded the statement: ‘A tribute to the patient steadfastness of our Palestinian people, and mercy and forgiveness to the victims of the aggression.
