Iraq and Spain discuss the possibility of canceling entry visas and its implications for strengthening tourism and economic relations

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning Affairs Hisham Al-Alawi discussed with the new Spanish Ambassador to Iraq, Aleza del Pulgar, the possibility of canceling the entry visa and its repercussions on strengthening tourism and economic relations and deepening cultural exchange between the governments and peoples of the two countries.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Al-Alawi received the Spanish Ambassador, and during the meeting, they discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially with regard to the exchange of visits between senior officials in both friendly countries, economic cooperation and trade exchange, and holding the Iraqi-Spanish Joint Committee, in addition to scientific and cultural exchange.

The Undersecretary also discussed with the Ambassador the activation of the memorandum of understanding on training diplomatic cadres and enhancing cooperation between the Spanish Diplomatic Academy and the Iraqi Foreign Service Institute, which was concluded in 2017.

According to the statement, the two parties discussed ways to expand cooperation in vital sectors, including infrastructure and economic development.

The Undersecretary stressed the importance of the role that Spain can play in supporting efforts to rebuild the infrastructure in Iraq, especially in the railway sector, including the development road and the Karbala-Najaf line, and other vital projects, which contribute to enhancing stability and economic prosperity.

Al-Alawi also touched on the issue of facilitating the movement of citizens between the two countries, where the possibility of canceling the entry visa and its repercussions on strengthening tourism and economic relations and deepening cultural exchange between the governments and peoples of the two countries were discussed.

The Undersecretary expressed his appreciation for the fruitful cooperation between Iraq and Spain, indicating his aspiration to continue developing bilateral relations during the next stage.

For her part, the Spanish Ambassador expressed her thanks to the Undersecretary for providing the opportunity to meet and the importance of the topics discussed with the aim of developing relations between the two friendly countries.
