Iraq and Kuwait discuss the work of the technical and legal committee concerned with the demarcation of maritime borders

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, Omar Al-Barzanji, received the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Iraq, Tariq Abdullah Al-Faraj, in his office at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that during the meeting, the relations between the two brotherly countries and the most important issues of common concern were discussed. The meeting also dealt with the work of the technical and legal committee concerned with demarcating the maritime borders between the two countries, as the Kuwaiti Ambassador praised the positive progress of the work of the joint legal and technical committee concerned with demarcating the joint borders at its sixth meeting held in Kuwait last month.

The Kuwaiti Ambassador also presented the issue of extending the memorandum of understanding for the shared oil fields, which the Council of Ministers agreed to extend, and working to set a suitable date for holding the joint meeting between the two sides for this purpose.

The meeting also dealt with the legal procedures for granting entry visas to Kuwaiti citizens and their vehicles, through the border crossings in the Kurdistan region and the Safwan port.

Undersecretary Al-Barzanji expressed the cooperation of the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in everything that would strengthen relations between the two brotherly countries, stressing the importance of the periodic meetings of the joint legal and technical committees in reaching a satisfactory solution for both brotherly countries.

The Undersecretary also affirmed the government’s serious endeavor to provide the necessary legal guarantees for Kuwaiti investors to work in Iraq.

For his part, the Kuwaiti Ambassador conveyed the desire of Kuwaiti investors to invest in Iraq and the importance of providing the necessary legal guarantees to investors by preparing the necessary attractive requirements such as the investment guarantee agreement and the prevention of double taxation between the two brotherly countries.
