Iranian President Receives an Official Invitation to Visit Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended today, Friday, an official invitation to his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, to visit the capital, Moscow, during a meeting that brought them together at the international conference “Interconnection of Times and Cultures – the Basis for Peace and Development” held in the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat.

Iranian media reported that “President Putin extended an official invitation to President Pezeshkian to visit Russia.”

The Iranian President considered relations between Iran and Russia to be “honest and strategic.”

Pezeshkian said in an interview with a Russian channel after the meeting that “the Zionist regime, with the support of America and the West, violates international laws and human rights.”

The meeting between the Russian and Iranian leaders came amid growing military tensions in the Middle East.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the “Continuity of Times and Cultures” summit on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of Makhtumguli Varagi, the national poet of Turkmenistan.

At the meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Moscow and Tehran are actively “cooperating” with each other on the international stage.

He said that the two countries “often agree on their assessments of world events.”

The Iranian President pointed to the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries and said: “Our positions in the world are much closer to each other than to others,” accusing European countries and the United States of “not wanting to continue relations among the countries of the region on a peaceful basis.”

Yuri Ushakov, the Russian presidential aide, said earlier that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss “the sharp deterioration of the situation in the Middle East” and bilateral relations.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday that the Iranian nuclear program is under control, noting that there is no evidence that Iran has begun to transform its nuclear program into a military one.
