Obeidat pointed out that Jordan’s continuation of providing basic services to refugees depends on the provision of adequate funding from the international community to maintain the ability of national institutions to provide services and provide funding for national sectors and priorities in order to build capacity to absorb refugees in the long term by adopting projects in education, health, infrastructure, and job creation fields.

He added that the Syrian refugees imposed a new reality and challenges on the Irbid governorate due to insufficient funding, and the need for international assistance is still great with insufficient funding to meet the needs and the general trend to reduce global funding, in addition to the great pressure on services such as education, health, water, electricity, the labor market, residential areas and the increase in prices, which affected the quality of life of individuals.

He noted that the consequences of refugees and the coronavirus have increased competition for limited j
ob opportunities and affected the ability of families to meet their needs or improve their standard of living.

Obeidat pointed to the poor alignment of the implemented programs with the priorities of the governorate, especially that implementing them without considering the development needs and priorities in each governorate will lead to the dispersion of resources and the achievement of many goals with little or no impact, stressing that the meeting comes to coordinate efforts and direct them towards the needs and priorities to achieve benefit for all.

Director of the UNHCR office in Irbid, Marjorie Cabrol, said that financial support is decreasing, which leads to the deterioration of the economic situation of Syrian refugees.
