Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya visited on Monday the West Irbid Municipality’s factory for the metal and concrete industries.

The minister applauded the municipality’s high level of service improvement, noting that the municipality has written a success story by reviving the factory and employing dozens of local workers, transitioning from a traditional to a developmental role in hiring the unemployed.

He pointed out that the municipality, located in northern Jordan, has achieved self-sufficiency in the containers, candlesticks, children’s toys and illuminated panels that it manufactures and was able to meet the need of other municipalities for containers.

The minister underlined how important it is for municipalities to construct initiatives and promote services, particularly since they are the ones that supply citizen services, which means they have to improve their performance and convert to electronic systems for transaction completion.

The West Irbid Municipality’s mayor, Jamal Bataineh, said that
the town is proceeding with its planned development and service process, and the people are starting to notice the tangible benefits.

He added that the municipal council and employees were successful in managing the municipality, which led to it continuing to work on implementing services and projects in the district and its areas, which made life easier for citizens. He noted that the municipality has implemented over 60 service projects, some of which have been completed and others are in the process of completion and tendering.

Bataineh noted that 2025 will see a noticeable shift in services and a rise in the number of development projects put into action, particularly given the trend toward partnering with the private sector to establish projects that will benefit citizens and the country’s economy.

Although the municipality’s revenue collection is substantially better than it was in prior years, he stated that there are still a lot of debts owed to the municipality, which calls for increased public aw
areness of the fact that the municipality is self-sufficient in providing services and thus needs support.

He added that next year’s budget will be programmatic, following a new strategy that will encourage numerous opportunities in all disciplines, ultimately improving the level of services delivered to citizens.

Accompanied by Irbid Governor Radwan Atoum and Police Director Brigadier General Omar Kasasbeh, the minister began his tour by inaugurating the West Irbid District’s Provincial Building, which was donated free of charge by the municipality for a year.

The minister underlined that the creation of a new district in Irbid is a gift from His Majesty King Abdullah to the residents of the area, and that the district will enhance services for them in a number of sectors and foster the intended development.

Faraya also visited the Ahfad al-Sahaba Charitable Society in Kfaryuba and was briefed on the services provided by the society to the local community.

Wael Bataineh, the society’s president, stated
that the organization sponsors 80 families, gives charity parcels to them on a regular basis, provides financial assistance to needy families at a rate of 20 families each month, and organizes free medical days.
