The representative of Iraq in the UN Security Council, Abbas Kazim Obaid, condemned the repeated Zionist attacks on Lebanon, Syria and Iran and the criminal behavior of using assassinations.
Obaid said during the UN Security Council session according to the official agency, “I extend my thanks for holding this session to discuss the situation in the Middle East, the repercussions of the Israeli occupation and the violations committed by its forces, which are the results of the accumulations of this occupation and its aggressive policies that have extended over 75 years.”
He added, “What has been happening since October 7, 2023 is inseparable from the accumulations of occupation and usurpation of rights, and your Council and the United Nations, with its full membership, have not been able to find a radical and comprehensive solution to it after these years of conflict, bloodshed, violations, land theft and settlement construction,” indicating that “during these decades, the international community has worked
through all diplomatic paths, international initiatives and Security Council and General Assembly resolutions to end the Israeli occupation and put an end to its violations and arbitrary practices against the Palestinian people, but unfortunately this entity ignores the United Nations Charter and the provisions of international and humanitarian law without deterrence or accountability, but rather finds false pretexts to defend these crimes.” He explained that “Iraq, like the rest of the world, has previously warned of the danger of escalation and expansion of the war arena and its extensions and repercussions on regional and international peace and security, which will increase the state of instability in the region and perpetuate the state of tension in it,” adding: “The Zionist entity, with its continued aggressive behavior and disregard for international resolutions by committing crimes, seeks to ignite crises and expand the conflict, which will lead to dangerous repercussions in the region that are diffic
ult to control.”
He continued: “The attacks launched by the Israeli occupation forces on Palestine, Lebanon and Syria have departed from the idea of self-defense as Israel claims despite its legal invalidity and have taken the path of revenge and genocide. This is what we are witnessing today as the occupation forces launch attacks on the sovereignty of countries and their territories under these false pretexts in blatant defiance of the principles and values of the United Nations and the resolutions of international legitimacy.”
He went on to say: “We express our strong condemnation of the repeated attacks on the territories of the Lebanese Republic, the Syrian Arab Republic and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we condemn the criminal behavior of using assassination methods. We demand the Security Council and urge member states to work to fulfill the responsibilities of the Council and exercise its duties in maintaining international peace and security by stopping the war in the Gaza Strip, saving lives,
opening border crossings, delivering humanitarian aid and protecting the Palestinian people. The Security Council must be more decisive in deterring Israeli transgressions and violations that undermine the stability of the region and the security of its peoples.”
He pointed out that “Iraq calls for supporting the Palestinian people in determining their fate and achieving their aspirations to end the occupation and establish their independent state on the land of Palestine.”
