Amman: Jordan’s Daman for Investment and Agricultural Industries (DIAI) and Saudi’s Wafrah for Industry and Development Wednesday signed a memo in Amman to pave the way for the export of Jordanian-grown potatoes to Saudi Arabia for industrial processing.

According to a statement, the memo comprises plans to explore opening a factory in Jordan to produce frozen French fries.

DIAI Vice Chairman Abdelhadi Falahat said the memo is a “critical milestone for the rapidly growing company,” noting its role in reinforcing Jordan’s agricultural infrastructure and food security.

Under the agreement, DIAI will supply 30,000 tons of potatoes annually for five years, starting in 2025. The companies will also explore building cold storage facilities in Ma’an in southern Jordan to enhance supply chain capabilities.

“This ini
tiative aligns with Royal directives to strengthen national food security, support the agricultural sector and generate sustainable financial returns for the Social Security Investment Fund of Jordan,” said Falahat.

DIAI is expected to leverage Wafrah’s extensive expertise across multiple disciplines. Wafrah CEO Rayan Mansour expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting the “deep” economic ties between Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

“We are eager to deepen our partnership with DIAI and utilise our comprehensive expertise in food production to supply premium products to the Saudi market,” Mansour stated.

Founded in 2020 as the investment arm of the Social Security Investment Fund, Daman for Investment and Agricultural Industries has been at the forefront of driving agricultural innovation in Jordan.

Daman for Investment and Agricultural Industries’ flagship project in the Mudawara area spans 30,000 dunums, focusing on cultivating strategic crops that contribute to national food security, all while ensuring
non-competition with small-scale farmers.
