The main committee of the Shura Council held its regular meeting today, Wednesday, headed by the Speaker of the Council, Muhammad Hussein Al-Aidaroos, and in the presence of the Vice-Presidents of the Council, Muhammad Al-Durra and Dhaif Allah Rassam.

The meeting, which included the heads and rapporteurs of the standing committees, was devoted to discussing the report of the Committee on Agriculture, Fish and Water Resources on ‘Fisheries are a basis for development and food security.’

At the meeting, the Shura Council Speaker praised the successive operations of the Yemeni Armed Forces, the most recent of which was the joint operation with the Iraqi Islamic Resistance, which targeted a vital target in Haifa as a victory for the oppression of the Palestinians.

He pointed out the importance of paying attention to fish resources as one of the most important pillars of sustainable development and food security, which requires the combined efforts of relevant parties to address the difficulties facing the dev
elopment of the fish sector. He stressed the necessity of protecting the marine environment from pollution by tightening control over ships that violate Yemeni territorial waters to carry out dredging work unjust marine life and plundering of marine resources.

Al-Aidaroos praised the efforts made by the Council’s Agriculture, Fish and Water Resources Committee in preparing the report , the recommendations and constructive proposals it contained to address the difficulties facing the fisheries sector.

The report highlighted the importance of adopting effective policies and strategies to develop the fishery sector as it is one of the vital resources that can contribute to achieving sustainable development and supporting the national economy.

The report recommended the importance of supporting scientific research to find new ways to increase fish production, preserve the marine environment, enhance marketing , exports by expanding the opening of markets and facilitating the supply process.

The recommendation
s indicated the importance of supporting local fishermen with soft loans, working to develop the performance of fish cooperative societies, implementing programs to protect the marine environment , coral reefs from pollution , harmful activities, and developing eco-tourism.

Interventions were presented at the meeting, which stressed in their entirety the importance of tightening control , preventing unjust , indiscriminate fishing, dredging, commercial ships that throw their waste into the sea and harm the environment and marine life.

They pointed out the necessity of working to support and establish central markets, points of sale, and cooling centers in coastal areas to preserve the quality of fish and reduce waste.

The meeting approved the report of the Agriculture, Fish and Water Resources Committee, taking into account the comments received on it and referring it to the general meeting of the Council.
